This study was conducted to determine the perceptions of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) students at UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan in utilizing smartphones as a learning resource for Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The research problem stems from the increasing use of smartphones in students' academic activities, which on the one hand provides easy access to information, but on the other hand has the potential to cause distraction and inaccurate learning resources. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological study type through semi-structured interviews and observations of 15 students selected purposively. Data were analyzed using interactive analysis techniques including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, and their validity was tested through source triangulation. The results showed that most students had positive perceptions of smartphone use because it provides easy access, time efficiency, and savings in learning costs. However, negative perceptions were also found in the form of social media distractions, doubts about the validity of digital religious content, and technical obstacles such as network and quota limitations. Overall, student perceptions are dynamic and influenced by their ability to manage technology use wisely.
