MAKNA SIMBOLIK LIBĀS AT-TAQWĀ DALAM SURAH AL-A’RĀF AYAT 26 (ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA JULIA KRISTEVA)

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to delineate how Julia Kristeva’s semiotic approach is applied to Qur'anic exegesis, specifically focusing on the phrase libās at-taqwā in Surah al-A‘rāf: 26. The researcher employs a qualitative-descriptive method, utilizing text analysis techniques and a semiotic approach. The researcher finds that the meaning of “the clothing of righteousness,” which literally refers to physical attire, undergoes a semantic shift to symbolize ethical and spiritual values. Within the framework of Kristeva's semiotic analysis, the researcher positions classical interpretations in Tafsir al-Ṭabarī and Tafsir Ibn Kathīr as the phenotext the surface structure of the text that paves the way for unfolding its inner meaning. Furthermore, the researcher observes that the phrase libās at-taqwā functions as a dynamic symbol that bridges the signifier (libās) and the signified (taqwā) within an intertextual system. This symbol creates a dialogue between the physical and the spiritual, as well as the interconnectedness between outward actions and inward consciousness. The primary finding of this study concludes that the phrase libās at-taqwā represents the spiritual identity of a believer through a nuanced and dynamic linguistic symbol. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of contemporary semiotic theory with classical exegesis, thereby generating a new perspective for understanding the sacred text simultaneously from linguistic, spiritual, and symbolic dimensions

Abstrak. Kajian ini ingin menguraikan bagaimana pendekatan semiotika Julia Kristeva diadakan dalam penafsiran Al-Qur’an, khususnya terhadap frasa libās at-taqwā dalam QS. al-A‘rāf: 26. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif-deskriptif dengan teknik analisis teks dan pendekatan semiotika. Peneliti mendapatkan bahwa makna “pakaian takwa” yang secara harfiah merujuk pada bentuk fisik, mengalami pergeseran makna menjadi simbol nilai-nilai etika dan spiritual. Dalam analisis semiotika Kristeva, peneliti menempatkan penafsiran klasik dalam Tafsir al-Ṭabarī dan Tafsir Ibn Kathīr sebagai fenoteks, yakni struktur permukaan teks yang menjadi jalan untuk membuka pemaknaan batiniah. Selanjutnya, peneliti melihat frasa libās at-taqwā bekerja sebagai simbol dinamis yang mempertemukan antara penanda (libās) dan petanda (taqwā) dalam sebuah sistem intertekstual. Simbol ini mendialogkan hubungan antara jasmani dan rohani, serta keterkaitan antara tindakan lahiriah dengan kesadaran batin. Temuan utama dari studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa frasa libās at-taqwā merepresentasikan identitas spiritual seorang mukmin melalui simbol bahasa yang bernuansa dan dinamis. Adapun kebaruan dari penelitian ini terlihat dari integrasi teori semiotika kontemporer dengan tafsir klasik, sehingga menghasilkan cara pandang baru dalam memahami teks suci secara bersamaan dari sisi linguistik, spiritual, dan simbolik.
